Solution: Cydia Not Showing Package Descriptions

Have you ever experienced Cydia not loading the package descriptions after jailbreak? A small portion of jailbreakers might have this problem after jailbreak. It happens on me after jailbreaking iPhone 4S iOS 5.1.1 with Absinthe 2.0.

On Cydia, some packages' descriptions are showing up but some are not, although these packages are under the same BigBoss repository. That's not a big deal because Cydia still able to install the missing details apps as usual but a bit annoying when looking at a blank page without knowing any details of the app.

My guess the reason that cause this problem is Cydia didn't initiate properly while preparing filesystem due to heavy traffic on their server. It always happens when a new jailbreak tool just released. Large number of users load Cydia after newly jailbroken causing the high traffic on Cydia server.

How I fix it?
Restore the firmware and jailbreak again. Easy as that. Now all the package descriptions are showing.

Cydia and ZodTTD servers still slow at the time of writing this post. So my advice is whenever you get any "timed out" error message in cydia, wait until their servers not overloaded and load the packages again.

  1. Can you please explain how to (re-jailbreak) my iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1
Is it possible to rejailbreak using Absinthe 2.0.4 (while my iPhone is already jailbroken)?

  2. Hi, connect your iPhone 4 with data cable and you will see "Restore" button on iTunes, right underneath the iPhone's info. Clicking "Restore" button will lose your jailbreak. So after iTunes restored your iPhone (iOS 5.1.1), you can jailbreak again with Absinthe 2.0.4.

Make sure you backup your iPhone first before restore it.
